TOUR DE FRANCE: LA 14^ TAPPA IN CASA LAMPRE-ISD, GIOIE E DOLORI PER DAMIANO CUNEGO

Che Vanendert abbia conquistato la 14^frazione del Tour de France, la tappa pirenaica che portava la carovana da Saint Gaudens a Plateau de Beille, per un torale di  168,5 km costellati dalle ascese del Portet d’Aspet, del Col de la Core, del Col de Latrape, dell’Agnes, del Port de Lers e con l’arrivo in salita hors category è cosa nota.

Dopo l’esaurimento di una fuga di più di 20 atleti, tra i quali un generoso Adriano Malori (foto Bettini), nata sul Col de Portet d’Aspet, il proscenio della tappa è stato occupato dai big della corsa: sull’ascesa verso Plateau de Beille (15,8 km al 7,9% di pendenza media). I fratelli Schleck hanno provato a forzare il ritmo con alcuni scatti, sempre neutralizzati, e Ivan Basso ha cercato di imporre un passo sostenuto per sgranare il drappello degli uomini di classifica, sgranando a 12 unità il drappello di testa  tra i quali Damiano Cunego.

Poco dopo l’attacco che avrebbe portato Vanendert alla vittoria (con Samuel Sanchez a seguirlo senza successo), Cunego ha perso contatto con il gruppetto dei big (a circa -5 km dal traguardo), riuscendo poi a rientrare dopo 1 km e riperdendo quindi contatto a 3500 mt dall’arrivo.
Assestatosi su un passo costante, Cunego ha concluso la tappa in 12^posizione con un ritardo di 1’27″ dal vincitore, 1’06″ da Samuel Sanchez (2°),  41″ da Andy Schleck (3°) e 39″ dal drappello comprendente Evans, Contador, Frank Schleck, Basso, Uran, Peraud, Rolland e la maglia gialla Voeckler.
In classifica generale, Cunego scende all’8° posto, con un ritardo di 4’01″ da Vockler.

“Da subito la salita di Plateau de Beille è stata affrontata a gran velocità e, soprattutto, con molti scatti, quindi era importante prendere l’ascesa nelle prime posizioni: Malori, superlativo, Loosli e Bono mi hanno dato un grosso aiuto in tal senso – ha spiegato Cunego – Ho provato a tenere duro, non rispondendo in prima persona agli allunghi, ma verso i 5 km all’arrivo ho capito che dovevo tenere un ritmo più regolare, così mi sono assestato sul mio passo. Questa scelta mi ha permesso di gestire le energie e di limitare il divario dagli atleti che mi hanno preceduto. La giornata non è stata delle più semplici, ma ritengo che posso guardare alle prossime tappe e alle Alpi con ottimismo: se proseguirò sulla strada della regolarità, della costanza e della gestione degli sforzi, riuscirò a togliermi delle soddisfazioni”.

Vanendert is the winner of the 14th stage of Tour de France, he Saint Gaudens-Plateau de Beille of 168,5 km with the climbs of Portet d’Aspet, Col de la Core, Col de Latrape, dell’Agnes, Port de Lers eand the hors category final climb.
After that a breakaway of more than 20 riders, among whose members there was also Adriano Malori (photo Bettini), the show on the Plateau de Beille (15,8 km at 7,9% of average degree) was all for the top riders: Schleck brothers tried some attacks, all neutralized, and Basso led the group on a good pace that selected the bunch to 12 members. Cunego was there, but he lost some meters at 5 km to go, then he rejoined the head group before he lost definitely contact at 3500 mt to the arrival: he crossed the finish line with a gap of 1’27″ to the winner Vanendert (who attacked from the top riders bunch), 1’06″ to Samuel Sanchez (who tried to chase the winner, without completing the chase), 41″ to Andy Schleck (3°) and 39″ to a group with Evans, Contador, Frank Schleck, Basso, Uran, Peraud, Rolland and the yellow jersey Voeckler.
In the overall standing, Cunego is 8th at 4’01″ to Voeckler.

“We approached Plateau de Beille climb on a high pace and with many attacks – Cunego explained – I tried to hang on, but then I understood that it would have been better to pedal on a pace that would have allowed me to manage the energies in a better way. So I did and I could limit the gap from the other top riders. I think that, if I will go on racing with regularity and managing the efforts, I will achieve important goals”.
