The Third Stage of the Tour of Basque Country, a short but challenging stage, set off today from Vitoria-Gasteiz to Eibar-Arrate, one of Basque Country’s major cities. Euskaltel-Euskadi’s Captain, Samuel Sánchez, won for the third consecutive year. He prevailed over Chris Horner and Joaquim ‘Purito’ Rodríguez in the final sprint of the three leaders racing the last kilometers together.

164 km to ride, 7 mountain trophies to tackle with a trademark finish over the first category Alto de Usartza crest which is 5,8 km long and has an average 8.44% gradient.
Good performances from Damiano Cunego and Michele Scarponi which proved themselves dynamic by keeping up with the top group and by achieving the 5th and 7th place at a 12 seconds distance for the winning trio.

A brilliant performance by the Lampre-ISD’s riders, from whom we expect a winning strategy with yet another uphill finish at tomorrow’s stage.
