We again witnessed the expected duel between the currently most performing Spaniards at today’s Stage 4 Tour of Basque Country, but with a reversed result. After riding a 151 km nervous race, Joaquim “Purito” Rodriguez crossed Bera’s finish line first, outpacing by 9 seconds the same Samuel Sanchez who had been able to prevail yesterday.
The Katusha Team Spaniard also claimed the leader’s jersey as the overall winner of the Tour of Basque Country.
Beware of Tony Martin. The Omega Pharma-Quickstep’s hefty German performed well today keeping up with the best and with only a 33 seconds distance from the top. The current time trial world champion will surely have a say in the day after tomorrow’s time trial final victory.
Michele Scarponi and Damiano Cunego continue with the best, but it is not enough, we expected something more from them.
