Great mood at Team Colombia after the outstanding display at the Tre Cime di Lavaredo: a big win was missed by short measure, but that can’t take away the huge emotion and satisfaction for a stage and a whole Giro rode at a very high level, and closed with Fabio Duarte’s second place on 2013 Corsa Rosa’s Cima Coppi, just in front of Coldeportes’ Director Andres Botero.

This performance obviously lit up the passion and excitement of millions of South American fans, including a very special one: Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos called the Team on Saturday night to personally congratulate Fabio Duarte and his fellow teammates for represeting Colombia with huge determination, commitment and pride


Mr. President’s call was a surprise for me, but that made me really happy – Fabio Duarte said – he told me about the emotions he felt during yesterday’s stage, and how proud he feels about what we managed to do and show at the Giro.

President Santos underlined his determination to see this project rise further in the upcoming years, as craved by a whole Country, deeply in love with its Team and the cycling sport.

Not only fans, but also fellow riders were stack to the TV on Saturday: the stage of Vuelta a Antioquia, a Colombian stage race, was delayed by more than an hour, because the athlete wanted to follow their Countrymen’s display on the big stage until the very final meter.
