2012 TOUR OF FLANDERS: A GREAT CLASSIC IN SEARCH OF AN AUTHOR

The 96th edition of the Tour of Flanders (the Ronde van Vlaanderen) is here and the scent of a “major” victory is in the air after last year’s surprise victory by Belgian Nick Nuyens.

The conditions for a great year are all here, top riders in great shape (meaning Fabian Cancellara, Tom Boonen and Peter Sagan) and champions hunting down the first victory of the season (Philippe Gilbert and Thor Hushovd are still at stake this season): the hunt for a new king is open.

Times have changed since that first 1913 edition, when the Belgian Paul Deman triumphed over a 330 km route, but the modern 255 km edition, with its 8 cobblestone sectors and its 16 mythical walls, will not fail to make the selection.

18 UCI World Tour Teams have enrolled and 7 teams with wildcards have been offered by the organization.
Let the show begin!
