TOM BOONEN: THE KING OF THE NORTH, THE UNFORGETTABLE ACE OF THE PARIS-ROUBAIX

Tom Boonen, rewrites modern cycling’s history by winning his 4th Paris-Roubaix with a memorable move reminiscent of past times. The move of a true champion, worthy of his absent Queen of the Classics’ rival Cancellara.

The Belgian champion’s show begins 53 km from the finish line and Tom “Tornado” Boonen successfully breaks away from his chase group, which included an unfortunate Filippo Pozzato (ending his chances by crashing on the cobblestones) and an indomitable Alessandro Ballan.

Boonen was going solo from that moment on. Kilometers diminished with his advantage constantly increasing despite Sky Team chase pack’s futile attempts to gain on him. He will cut the Roubaix finish line with more than a 1 minute and 39 sec. lead over his direct chasers.

It is this season’s ninth victory for the OmegaPharma-QuickStep captain, after those at Gand-Wewelgem and Tour of Flanders.
Photo finish between Sébastien Turgot (Europcar) and Alessandro Ballan (BMC ) for second spot.
