Great satisfaction at Wilier headquarter. After the unpleasant vicissitudes due to the premature termination of the contract with the team Lampre-ISD, in Rossano Veneto there is an air of optimism. And it’s news today the award of the wildcard RCS to Team Colombia Cycling Pro. A wildcard that will allow to the team of Claudio Corti to participate in the 96th Giro d’Italia.

Also this year, therefore, the bike with the halberd will be riding on the roads of the Giro. A tour full of hills, ideal terrain for the escarabajos and their Zero.7.

See you on May 4 in Naples!

From Team Colombia press office:

A Colombian Team is set to get back on the stage of a Grand Tour in 2013, and its name is Team Colombia! After weeks of eager waiting by the Team and its fans all over the World, that sounded their support in impressive fashion on Twitter with the #Colombia4Giro cause, the long-expected announcement has finally come on Tuesday January 8th, when RCS Sport released the name of the four Wildcard teams who will be at the start of the 96th Giro d’Italia in Naples on May 4th: Claudio Corti’s team has been entrusted by the Corsa Rosa organizers to “Fight for Pink” in the 2013 edition. Androni Giocattoli, Vini Fantini and Bardiani were awarded the other three Wildcards.

In addition, the Escarabajos will have another run at another World Tour race, Il Lombardia.

General Manager Claudio Corti could not hide his excitement for his Team’s first nod in a Grand Tour, and is looking forward to get an extremely well-boding season started: “This invitation is a crucial step in our project’s path, so I can’t be anything but happy that our Team has managed to win a Giro d’Italia spot in just its second season in the pro ranks. In our first year, I think we showed everyone in cycling the real value of our riders and organization, and we feel ready to improve further: we got a huge bunch of people all over the World who can’t wait to see us in action at the Giro, and we certainly will not disappoint them.”

“We have got the riders and the attitude to perform in a demanding Giro d’Italia, and we will be looking to bring what everybody expects from us: we have a group of exciting grimpeurs and an “Inspired by Climbing” attitude, and we definitely will not back down when the road points up.”

Sports Director Valerio Tebaldi is also glad to release his joy after a very intense process: “It feels great to be part of the return of a Colombian team on the Grand Tours stage. Our team left its mark on races with its quality and personality in 2012, and we now get the chance to give our fans what they have been waiting for so long. We worked very hard for a year, but our efforts paid dividends: Team Colombia managed to win the respect and the affection of people from all over the World, and this invitation marks a huge moment for us.”
It is a celebration day at Coldeportes too, and Director Andres Botero expressed great joy and satisfaction for the appointment of Team Colombia for the upcoming Corsa Rosa.
